Peter Katkov
CEO and Founder – Chief Problem Solver
What’s your background?:
Like many in this field, I stumbled into the world of insurance by chance, but I am profoundly grateful for that journey. I was born and raised in North County San Diego, completed my undergraduate studies at USC’s Marshall School of Business, spent five years living in British Columbia where I owned and operated a live music venue, and then returned to San Diego to immerse myself in the insurance industry. After dedicating 15 years to working with another agency, I made the decision to take a leap of faith and establish Apex Risk Insurance Services—a boutique, client-focused firm specializing in risk management and insurance, with our headquarters in Carlsbad, CA.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I love spending time with my growing family (two boys!), surfing, golfing, snowboarding, traveling, and working on our home.
What is your favorite quote?
“The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is today.” – Unknown
What are your top 3 favorite Podcasts/Books?
When it comes to my top three favorite podcasts and books, I’m particularly drawn to content that enriches my understanding of various subjects. At the top of my list is “The Huberman Podcast,” which offers insightful discussions on neuroscience and human performance. Another favorite of mine is “Let My People Go Surfing” by Yvon Chouinard, a book that not only delves into the world of outdoor adventure but also explores ethical business practices and sustainability. Lastly, “The E Myth Revisited” by Michael Gerber has been an invaluable read, providing a fresh perspective on entrepreneurship and small business management. These selections reflect my passion for both personal development and business acumen.
